Gum Surgery

Gum surgery is the process that treat gum disease by reshaping the tissue around the teeth that has been affected by bacteria. This surgery treats gum infections such as gingivitis and periodontitis disease. Gingivitis is a mild form of gum disease that can cause redness, swelling and bleeding and it is due to a poor oral hygiene, plague and tartar buildup.

Periodontitis is a more severe gum disease in which the inflammation has destroyed bone and tissue causing spaces called pockets in which traps bacteria and lead to infection. This makes the tooth to loosen and damage to the bone.

Before any procedure, the doctor will perform a deep cleaning to prepare for the surgery. There could be some bleeding and swelling after gum surgery, it is recommended to contact your periodontist immediately if you experience problems.
